Monochrome was the name of the day for most of the glammed up stars who wandered down the Red Carpet over the last hour. Possibly mistaking the industrial MTV Australia dudes for a dress code, there were emo hairstyles a-plenty, as the stars grabbed their best black and white for the celebrity march.
The Veronicas showed up in matching chiffon reverse dresses; Tiffany Wood sported a white ruffled dress with black belt; and the bassist from Kisschasy was a 40s style cutey in black punctuated by white collar, cuffs and sneakers. Deni Hines looked chic in semi-transparent tights, baggy black shorts and a black sequined top; Juliette Lewis did a white shirt with a hot black flamenco style jacket; while Mischa Barton wandered down the aisle like an enormous ostrich, working the crowd with a jacket that was covered in black and white feathers.
There were some who notably jumped into colour; mostly the hip hop folks; with Dizzee Rascal winning the day for his mad belt clip a crazy gold sneaker teamed up with a satin "wild child" bomber jacket. Fiddy showed up with his G-Unit in coloured tees that would have reminded us of the Wiggles if they didn't look so fierce. Eve used her moment to drip in gold from head to toe, teaming gold shoes and a tassled gold dress with her trademark golden waist-length hair.
The atmosphere on the Red Carpet was great, with Chupa Chups girls stuffing fans and celebrities alike with tropical flavoured lollypops. Mischa Barton's favourite was reportedly Watermelon, and her consumption early on at the Carpet reportedly resulted in a Watermelon shortage by the time the Chupa Chups got to the photo area. The Chupa Chups girls were also quite the gossips, telling punters that Dizzee Rascal had "very soft hands"(!)
Mischa Barton also had the unexpected opportunity to show that she's no lightweight when it comes to publicity events. The cries of "Mischa!" quickly turned to a collective gasp, when a group of over-enthusiastic fans leaned too hard on the security barrier, causing it to momentarily collapse. But before Mischa could be crushed by a wave of teens who "love[d] her!", she caught the barrier with barely a ruffled feather. The fans all apologized profusely, but Mischa was swept away by security before the fans could get any more autographs.
That could have been a bit too 'up close and personal' but what's more incredible is that she had it so together. An impressive feat, considering she wearing enormous platforms and ridiculously fluffy outfit, carrying an oversized clutch, and also reportedly spent the entire night partying it up and downing copious drinkies at the Juliette and the Licks concert the night before. You've got to hand it to her for coordination under pressure!
And talking of pressure, a potential scuffle occurred on the Red Carpet between Fiddy's G-Unit and kiwi boy Scribe, when the two attempted to enter the photo area at the same time. The G-Unit stepped in with a collective pack snarl, and Scribe backed off pretty damn quick. Still, he recovered enough to work the photographers when it came to his turn, and it seemed there were no reps on the line.
Finally, there was a big surprise for the night. Namely, the Chaser boys Julian Morrow and Andrew Hansen decided to play it Straight No Chaser. They arrived on the Red Carpet in a car that had nary a Canadian flag in sight. Lucky, cos we had no snipers either...just a whole lot of snappers.
