Movember
Nominated for the MTV Good Karma Award For Raising Awareness And Funding For Male Health Issues Through Australia And Beyond Movember has been taking the world by storm, one hair at a time, and in doing so raised stacks of awareness for men’s health issues that might otherwise not get a look in. Originating in Australia, the mo-vement last year also encompassed Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, ensuring that blokes the world over don’t skip the medical checks, and miss out on medical attention for prostate cancer and male depression.
Participants, or so-called “Mo Bros”, start the month clean-shaven, and spend the rest of Movember touching their face, lamenting their limited masculinity, or reveling in the bushy manhood little appreciated in two decades, outside of bikie gangs and traffic cops – Tom Selleck, eat your heart out! Mo-friends sponsor the growths, with money being donated to men’s health organizations at the conclusion of the month.
Given that male life expectancy is 5 years less than women, it’s as plain as the mo on your face that this little bit of silliness is going a hell of a long way in Australia and beyond.
