Earth Hour began as a Sydney initiative, but was observed by many Australian cities on 31 March last year. It requested businesses and individuals to switch off their lights and other unnecessary electrical devices from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, with the aim of reducing electrical consumption and assisting the fight against global warming.

The idea quickly snowballed and went international, with cities in New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Thailand, Denmark, Fiji, the Phillippinnes, Ireland and Israel also participating in their own Earth Hours.

Good Karma to Earth Hour for one moment becoming a movement, and changing the consciousness of energy users around the world.
