The MTV Television Moment Award is that moment that we all had to watch, whether we were the couch potatoes who started laughing Twisties out our nose when it first came on air, or one of the people who read about it/ saw it on YouTube/ kept receiving emails about it afterwards.
And from the moment our former Prime Minister started posting snipers on the top of Sydney CMD buildings, closing off the Harbour Berlin-Wall style, and asking people for their ID when they crossed the street during last year's APEC Summit, the wheels were set in motion for us to be awarding the 2008 MTV Australia Television Moment Award.
The lads at The Chasers War On Everything win this year's prize for their unexpectedly huge-scale success in breaching security at the APEC Summit last year, which not only had us all laughing our arses off, but made the worldwide news to boot. And just in case you've been living under a rock for the last 12 months, here's how it happened: Julian Morrow and Chas Licciardello entered an APEC Restricted Zone in a makeshift Canadian motorcade (disguised cunningly with a Canadian flag who could have devised something so dastardly!) while Chas was dressed as Osama Bin Laden. That satire deserves more than a giggle - it deserves a wholesale guffaw.
The Chaser should also take the prize for the shortest speech in history. Despite displaying their usual finesse when presenting the MTV Australia Bad Karma Award to Kevin Andrews, in their acceptance speech they managed to thank one girlfriend of the duo - Jess - and that was it! Awkward moment on a mass scale - they do it so well!
But we still salute you, Chaser boys - no matter what you do, you always make us chuckle...
